Saturday 23rd July – Bike ***** and Open Water Skinny Dip :) – Far from the Maddening Crowd!!!

With light winds, hot and wall to wall sunshine and with Felixstowe Carnival on we had to escape the crowds and the sight of overweight Majorities is not pleasing on the eye it was time to get to bikes out. After a quiet breakfast in the garden, Mag even managed an early morning trip to Lidl to stock up we headed off about midday. I wanted to look in Seamark Nunn a chandlery shop in Trimley for some wetsuit shoes so we headed the back way to Cordys Lane, through our beautiful tree lined avenue to Grimstone lane which brings you right out by the shop. The wetsuit shoes were very expensive so we passed and continued on to Kirton where we turned right towards the River Deben, crossing a wheat field and farm yard, coming out by Kirton Creek. It was very quiet out here with only a couple of walkers on the far side of the creek. Our plan was to head a little way up river to a little path that takes you right to the riverside where there is a little rowing boat to sit on but we were beaten to it by the walkers:( Undaunted we found another spot just short of that spot crossing the stunning sea heather covered soggy marsh to the river where we spent a very peaceful two hours watch the world go by. We read, had lunch as the many boats headed up and down, the highlight was a group of escorted youngsters heading back to the Ferry from a trip up river having a lot of fun.It was so hot and the tide was high I decided to go for a dip and enjoyed swimming up and down the river even spotting a seal :) As with most footpaths in Suffolk at the moment it was very overgrown, must be council cutbacks and sadly the paths are not cut any more so we decided against biking back along the river and headed back to Kirton. It was then onto Fakenham Church and down to Kings Fleet where we had a Bittern fly overhead:) Back to the beautiful purple river banks and onto the very crowded Felixstowe Ferry, then to The Dip with the beach very busy and as usual the oafs had left loads of bottles and cans for others to clear up – the world is full of people who take no responsibility for their actions with no respect for anything or anyone – that much hope for the future really with so much anger and hate in the world where ones beliefs make you want to go out and murder innocent people :( Rant over we arrived home after 5 hours out mostly in the beautiful peace and quiet of sunny Suffolk.
